Fencing & Gate Installation Across Surrey

The widest fencing range of any local contractor, close board, panel, trellis, wooden and metal gates, all installed to last.

Proper Fencing, Properly Installed

The difference between a fence that stands for 20 years and one that leans after the first winter storm is almost entirely in the post setting and the quality of the frame. GK Landscapes uses concrete posts and gravel boards on close board fencing as standard, not wooden posts in metpost spikes, which is the shortcut that causes most early fence failures in Surrey.

We handle more fencing types than most local contractors: close board, panel, trellis, picket, wooden gates and metal driveway gates including electric. Every job gets the same approach, Patrick visits, measures up, gives you a clear written price, and the same team does the work.

2
Post setting

Concrete posts or concrete spurs set in mixed concrete to the correct depth, typically 600mm+.

Gravel boards

Concrete gravel boards fitted at ground level to keep timber boards off the soil and prevent ground rot.

4
Arris rails

Horizontal framing rails fixed to the posts at the correct spacing for the chosen boards.

5
Board fixing

Feather-edge boards nailed to arris rails with the correct overlap. Each board plumb and level.

Fencing Types We Install

Close Board Fencing

The most durable choice. Concrete posts, gravel boards and feather-edge boards, built to withstand Surrey weather for 20+ years. Patrick's recommendation for most garden boundaries.

Close Board Fencing →

Panel Fencing

Budget-friendly and quick to install. Good for replacing storm-damaged fencing or where speed matters. Less longevity than close board but a practical choice for the right situation.

Panel Fencing →

Wooden Gates

Side gates, garden gates and double driveway gates, fitted correctly so they open, close and last. Hung on heavy-duty hardware with the right post specification.

Wooden Gates →

Metal Gates

Metal driveway and garden gates for security and kerb appeal. Includes electric gate systems. A striking kerb appeal upgrade that significantly improves security.

Frequently Asked Questions

Close board fencing uses individual feather-edge boards nailed to a frame, it follows the ground profile exactly and is far more durable. Panel fencing uses pre-made panels slotted between posts, quicker and cheaper to install but less durable (particularly waney lap panels) and cannot follow slopes. For a long-term garden boundary, close board is almost always the better investment.

Concrete posts last indefinitely, they do not rot at ground level, which is where timber posts almost always fail first. A close board fence on concrete posts with concrete gravel boards can have the boards replaced once or twice over its life and the structure will still be sound. Timber posts in direct ground contact typically last 10–15 years before needing replacement.

Rear and side garden fences up to 2 metres high are generally permitted development. Front garden fences adjacent to a road are limited to 1 metre. Conservation areas and listed buildings may have additional restrictions. Patrick checks this at every site visit.

Check your title deeds or Land Registry entry. A 'T' mark on the boundary plan indicates ownership of that boundary. If the T mark is on your side, the fence is your responsibility. If there is no T mark, it may be shared responsibility, worth discussing with your neighbour before instructing a contractor.

Yes, old fence removal and disposal is included in all our fencing quotes as standard. We leave your garden clean.
